New York state is continuing to add to its casino portfolio.

The Saratoga Casino Hotel announced a new addition last week that will cost around $8 million for its capital improvement project.

This project will feature a brand-new sports bar, VIP lounge and a complete renovation of the casino floor currently in place – all in anticipation that the New York sports betting market, with a bill progressing in fits and starts, will become legal and break wide open.

Saratoga Casino Hotel officials made the announcement via a news conference on May 30 and said that the project involves the addition of several innovative amenities to the property including an all-new sports bar on the gaming floor, a new VIP lounge, upgraded high-limit slot area and self-service beverage stations.

Also included is new carpet, finishes, lighting fixtures, upgraded sound system, and 50 multimedia screens throughout the casino, per The Post Star.

Saratoga Casino Addition Big Investment

This latest announcement from the casino follows the recent project that was released featuring a new outdoor gaming terrace in early May.

These newest additions will be done in sections. There will be little issues to the casino operations, a crucial part of business at Saratoga so things will run accordingly until the project’s estimated finish by the end of 2019.

“Our main goal is quite simple. It’s to create amenities that will enhance the guest experience at Saratoga Casino Hotel,” Saratoga Casino Hotel Treasurer George “Skip” Carlson told The Saratogian. “We view this capital improvement as an absolutely necessary step for us to remain competitive as the number one entertainment destination in the Capital District, and the Northeast location, in what has become a very increasing competitive gaming market.”

Officially launching in 1941 as a simple harness horse track, the property that is now Saratoga Casino Hotel has seen nearly $100 million in investments and improvements over the past 15 years, Saratoga Casino Hotel General Manager Alex Tucker told The Saratogian.

New Sports Bar at Saratoga Casino

Tucker lauded the new sports bar as the main feature of this new $8 million project, when talking to the The Saratogian.

The sports bar will be above the casino floor space right near the main entrance of the building. It will have around 75 seats for people to enjoy food and drinks. The bar will also have two tiers of multimedia screens that are completely 360-degrees. On top of that, the bar will have just north of 20 craft and domestic beers and an a la carte menu featuring a high-end gastropub fare, The Saratogian pointed out.

Paired with the sports bar is the new state-of-the-art VIP longue where a select group of gamblers will get to relax and have access to a longue area that will include drinks and food complimentary from the casino. Private areas of seating, comfortable couches, TV’s and a fireplace will be there for bettors to relax in during a down time. Right near the sports bar and VIP longue, a renovated high-limit slot area of the casino is going to be in place.

Impact Of Saratoga Casino Expansion Project

The last major addition to the Saratoga Casino came in 2016 when the luxury hotel was built with 117 rooms. Top casino officials told The Post Star that this project will be the site’s most transformational.

“Though it's a massive undertaking, this will truly be a transformative project for the property,” Tucker told The Saratogian. “We are tremendously excited, as a property, about this project. We’ve always known that we have the best location, right here in Saratoga, and now after completion of this project we’ll have the property to match.”

The Saratoga Casino Hotel is trying to continue to separate itself from other casinos in the area and around the country. This addition will help transform the building as New York moves closer to legalized sports betting.
